A Message from the Superintendent

Thank you! Volunteerism can take many forms from reading to children, to serving as a mentor, to helping with special events at the schools. Whatever form your volunteering takes, we want you to know that we are very appreciative of your time and willingness to serve as a volunteer for the Salem Public Schools. We have no doubt that our students will benefit!

Sincerely,
Dr. Steve Russell

The Importance of Volunteers

Volunteers are a valuable resource for our schools. With the commitment and involvement of the community, Salem Public School students will improve their skills, self confidence and motivation to recognize and achieve their full potential.,

Salem Public Schools welcomes volunteers of all ages who are willing to dedicate their time and skills to support students and teachers. Volunteers work with students in reading, writing, social studies, science and math; helping them to improve their grades and achieve academic goals. Volunteers assist teachers by assembling packets and prepping for projects. Volunteers improve the school environment completing indoor and outdoor projects.

It All Starts Here

Prospective volunteers are asked to complete a Volunteer Application Form. The Application Form provides Salem Public Schools with important information regarding your contact numbers, interests and availability.  Completed forms should be mailed to Yvonne van Bodengraven, Salem Public Schools, 29 Highland Ave, Salem MA 01970 or emailed to volunteer@salemk12.org

Upon receipt of the Volunteer Application form the Volunteer Coordinator will schedule a meeting to discuss possible volunteer placements. A routine check of criminal records (CORI) will be conducted on all volunteers. A photocopy of your driver’s license is required for the CORI. (Other forms of identification can be substituted if you do not have a driver's license) Volunteers are asked to sign a release form allowing Salem Public Schools to use photographs to promote volunteerism and to provide consent for emergency medical treatment.
