Tentative Start and End Times

Effective Date: November 16, 2020

On October 19th, the Salem School Committee approved a plan to offer more students in-person learning opportunities for students in preK to second, sixth and Collins, and 9th and CVTE at SHS. beginning November 16, 2020. Those in-person opportunities do require some changes to the school day. Below are the tentative updated start and end times:

  • In many cases, students who attend in-person will have a slightly shortened in-person day and will have up to one hour of remote learning to complete when they return home. This includes students who have been in-person.
  • The start and end of the school day will remain relatively unchanged for students who remain remote, although their daily schedules may shift slightly.
  • If students are hybrid, they will follow the schedule for in-person on two days of the week and remote on three days of the week.
  • Please note that these times are tentative and may shift up to 30 minutes to balance schedules for transportation.
  • Schools will communicate specific procedures for arrival and dismissal with families who will have students in-person, including staggering times to maximize health and safety and minimize crowds.

All grades K-2 students will attend in-person will also have up to one hour of remote learning after they arrive at home.

Previous changes that still apply:

(1) CMS Extended Learning Time to be reduced by 55 minutes from the 19-20 school year

(2) To meet required hours of instruction, Salem Prep’s day will include 40 additional minutes of anytime/recorded instruction.

Note for students who ride the bus: Bus times will be communicated in advance of the November 16th start date. While the time the student spends on the bus should be comparable to a regular school year, students may arrive at school or be picked up from school to go home up to 45 minutes before the start of school or 45 minutes after school ends. Staff will be at school to supervise and support students during these times. These times are required because we are limiting the number of students on buses to one student per seat, which requires us to have busses run more than one route to bring everyone to school and home. We cannot bring more students back in person without this option. Please reach out if you have questions.
