Evaluations

When an evaluation is requested, a letter will be sent home detailing the specific evaluations being requested and the reason those evaluations were chosen. Consult this list for a brief review of the types of assessments that may be requested and who completes the assessment. After testing has been completed the Team will meet to review the tests. The tests presented are often explained by a series of statistical data points. The majority of tests will be measured against a normative sample, which measures how your child compares to children of the same age or grade nationwide. It can be rather confusing to understand, so do not hesitate to ask the evaluator questions on what the tests tell you about your child. You can also consult this guide for reference. The IEP uses this information to determine whether or not your child presents with an educational disability. If the Team determines that your child presents with an educational disability, the next step is determining whether your child meets eligibility for an Individualized Education Program (IEP). If the Team determines your child does not require specialized instruction they may refer you to the 504 Team.
