SPS Families --
On Thursday, July 2, Salem Summer Eats will serve cold meals due to the extreme heat.
Meals will be served with a Fresh Vegetable, Fresh Fruit, Milk, a Sandwich or Power Pack and a 100% Juice Icee.
Children will be permitted to “Grab & Go” at our Free Meal Sites instead of eating at the site, due to the heat.
Come cool off with us tomorrow & grab a cold meal!
Thursday’s Planned Lunch Meal – Local Cheeseburger / Hamburger or Turkey Dog, Corn on the Cob, Lettuce, Tomato, Condiments & an Icee – will be served Monday, July 13.
Thursday’s Planned Dinner Meal – Local Steak Tips or Chicken Tips with a Soft Pretzel, Potato Salad, Coleslaw, & an Icee – will be served Thursday, July 23.
In the same week that school ended for the summer, we`re already preparing for next year.
Last Thursday and Friday, with the 2025-26 school year top of mind, SPS staff and leadership took part in its 2026 Summer Leadership Institute in preparation for 2026-27. Under the theme, `Pit Crew Academy` (see the YouTube link below), the two-day professional development sessions included strategic activities, challenges, team building, plenty of reflection on the previous year, and work on our 2026-27 school and department improvement plans.
SPS staff was also treated to a spirited, interactive motivational speech from Carrie Stack of the Say Yes Institute.
The goals of the SLI were to consolidate and refine focus practices of recent years; to work consistently and coherently in concert with the SPS instructional vision; and anticipate and mitigate blocks and barriers to guide our students in achieving the six tenets of Salem`s Portrait of a Graduate: critical thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration, communication, self-awareness, and cultural competence.
A little R&R first. Then bring on 2026-27.

SPS Families --
With the 2025-26 school year still top of mind, this is a final reminder to complete the Spring 2026 Family/Caregiver Survey, which should take no more than 15 minutes.
Take the Survey: surveys.panoramaed.com/salem/Family2026/surveys
The survey will be open until Friday, July 3, 2026. We encourage you to take one survey per student you care for. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Haitian Creole and many other languages.
Should you have any questions or need support please reach out to the Family Welcome Center at 978-740-1225 or email WelcomeCenter@salemk12.org.
SPS Families -- The Summer Eats Witchcraft Heights location will begin Monday, July 6, from 10:15-11:15 a.m.
We apologize to those who were inconvenienced today, and hope you were able to pivot to another one of our Summer Eats lunch locations.
The opening was delayed because we are employing SHS extended services students (along with SPS Food & Nutrition Services staff), who will be available to work beginning July 6, which we failed to communicate. Again, please accept our sincerest apologies.
See the amended flyer, along with our breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.
We hope to see you next Monday.
The Collins Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization honored Principal Gavin Softic and the CMS leadership with a commemorative plaque Monday, June 22 at the annual CMS Family Picnic at Winter Island Park.
Cheryl Zimmerman, the PTO treasurer and paraprofessional at Salem Prep High School made the presentation, lauding the CMS staff for its commitment to one another as well as making for a smooth transition in welcoming middle school students from the Saltonstall School last fall.
“During staff appreciation week I was impressed on how many staff were running to other classrooms to cover so the other teachers could take a break and grab some refreshments. I have worked for the system for almost 28 years and it isn`t often that you will see a school of that size work so well for each other. Salem is cohesive, but they just went way above and beyond for each other. It really was impressive.”
Presenting the plaque alongside Ms. Zimmerman was PTO Secretary Sarah Vozzo (second from left) to Mr. Softic and Senior Account Clerk Liliana Pena.
