Six graduates earn Toyota certification in automotive technology, OSHA, CPR, AED certification

SALEM (Jan. 16, 2023) – The Salem Career Technical Institute, an adult education initiative at Salem High School, celebrated its first graduating class Friday night in a ceremony at the SHS Library.

The Salem CTI awarded automotive certifications to six graduates, each of whom completed the 12-week program – at no cost – and earned Toyota Technology 1 certification.

In addition, graduates earned certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 standards, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator use (AED), and were furnished with $300 worth of the necessary tools, a full uniform and boots to begin work immediately.

Graduates also experienced mock interview training as well as instruction on resume and cover letter writing.

Al Jonuz, Fixed Operations Director at Herb Chambers Automotive Group of Somerville, was on hand recruiting and encouraging each of the graduates to apply for positions within the auto group giant, which has 60 dealerships throughout New England.

Friday’s ceremony symbolized the District’s Strategic Plan’s four priorities: Elevating learning, empowering educators, prioritizing belonging and strengthening the foundation of the district.

The 2024 CTI graduates included:

  • Destini Jackson (Lynn, Mass.)
  • Jonah Katz (Salem, Mass.)
  • Briant Martinez (Lynn, Mass.)
  • William Nolasco (Marblehead, Mass.)
  • Tyler Quigley (Marblehead, Mass.)
