Salem State Admissions Decision Ceremony Offers Acceptance to 41 SHS Seniors
SALEM (Oct. 25, 2023) – Forty-one Salem High School seniors earned acceptance to Salem State University Thursday, Oct. 19 at the first-ever SSU Applies to You Admissions Decision Ceremony at SHS’s Instructional Multimedia Center.
Many of the 41 students accepted at the ceremony are members of the Early College Program at SHS, with which SSU is partnered. Among them, several have already committed to attending SSU in the fall of 2024.
Amie Capodanno, the Early College Program manager at SHS, estimates between 15-20 percent of the 41 accepted students will attend SSU.
“I feel like it went well,” Ms. Capodanno noted. “I definitely think for students interested in attending Salem State, there is that level of nervousness. This was their acceptance.”
Several officials from the SSU admissions staff were on hand to present letters of acceptance to the SHS students, including Bonnie Galinski, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management.
The Early College Program at SHS is a guided program for students entering their sophomore years to have a gradual immersive experience into a college environment. Students in the program can earn up to 30 college credits by graduation and are taught by SHS educators, SSU professors and have full access to tutors during and after-school in the IMC.
“They all see the benefit of it,” Ms. Capdanno said. “The population of students has already increased since the opening of the program.”
North Shore Community College is also partnered with SHS’s Early College Program.
