SPS Announces Principal Hires
Blocks spelling the word teachSalem Superintendent of Schools Margarita Ruiz announced the appointment of principals for the Collins Middle School and Bates Elementary. 

At the Collins, Matt Condon was appointed as principal.  Mr. Condon has been serving as the interim principal for the current school year, during which time he has demonstrated that he possesses the passion and drive to propel student achievement forward and create a positive and supportive learning environment for teachers and staff.

During this school year, Mr. Condon restructured coaching cycles to ensure that 100% of staff received coaching to facilitate growth in teaching practice, developed a new master schedule to provide equity for all students’ educational experience, and revised data cycles to monitor and facilitate growth for all students.

At the Bates, Jose "J.J." Munoz was appointed principal.  Mr. Munoz has been serving as the interim principal for the current school year, during which time he has demonstrated that he possesses the commitment and drive to propel student achievement forward and create a positive, collegial learning environment for teachers and staff.

This school year Mr. Munoz has initiated Data Wise cycles for teachers to collaborate and improve their improve their instructional practice; facilitated the Instructional Leadership Team to strengthen collaboration for best instructional strategies and practices; implemented a school-wide house system to enhance social skills and inclusivity across grade levels and staff; and, decreased school-wide behavioral office referrals across grades and programs.
