Dear Salem High School Community,

We wanted to give you an update on the Executive Principal search for Salem High School.  We received 19 applications for this position and our screening team, through extensive evaluation and interviews, has narrowed the finalists down to four very qualified individuals (one has since chosen not to move forward). The screening team was facilitated by Andre Ravenelle, Executive Director of Teachers21 and was comprised of students, staff, administrators, parents, community partners and other stakeholders. We are excited to welcome and meet the following three finalists during the week of April 26th.

Mr. Glenn Burns: Glenn Burns is currently the Principal at Haverhill High School in Haverhill, MA and has been in that role for the past three years.  Mr. Burns was also the Collins Middle School Principal from 2014–2018 and prior to that was a history teacher, redesign coach and assistant principal in the Fall River Public Schools.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater State College and a Master of Education in Leadership from Providence College.

Mr. Elvis Henriquez: Mr. Henriquez currently serves as the Principal at the John W. McCormack Middle School in Boston.  Prior to that, he was a grade 8-12 teacher in the Boston Public Schools where he taught mathematics and bilingual education.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Education degree in Secondary Teaching in Mathematics from the Boston College Lynch School of Education. Currently, Mr. Henriquez is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at George Washington University.

Mr. Chris Mastrangelo: Mr. Mastrangelo is currently the Principal at Malden High School. He has served in this position for the past three and a half years. Before that he served as the Boyle House Principal at Malden High School for eight and a half years. After graduating from Springfield College, he went on to teach in his hometown of Wakefield for twelve years before moving on to Peabody High School, where he was the long-time boys’ basketball coach and Dean of Students.

The larger community will now have an opportunity to participate in this process.  All three finalists will be meeting with students, faculty and administrators during the week of April 26th at Salem High School. After the school visits, each candidate will participate in a virtual public forum from 4-5 pm. We ask that questions be submitted in advance for these forums.
