SALEM — Seamus Coughlin built a boat designed to sweep trash from polluted parts of the ocean. Modeled after sea animals, it has a wide mouth that mirrors a whale’s and its outstretched arms are designed to coil like an octopus’s tentacles. It’s an innovative idea to mitigate the adverse climate effects in areas such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Not bad for a seventh-grader.
