WATCH | Sarah Parker Remond School First Graders Community Embedded Learning at Palmer Cove Gardens

Sarah Parker Remond School grade 1 scholars spent part of Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 22, tending to the Palmer Cove garden beds under the direction of Jorge Mueses, a Salem High School graduate and overseer of the beds for the Salem YMCA green space.
The activity is part of the new Community Embedded Learning program at the school, at which students visit landmarks and destinations in and around Salem, then return to class and work on an activity related to the landmark.
Mr. Mueses gave a brief presentation on the basics of growing fruits and vegetables. Students watered each of the garden beds and were also given cups of clean fill and seeds to grow their own cilantro at home.
