The Salem News | New superintendent Thomas Welch starts first day

SALEM — New Salem Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Welch started his first day on Monday, looking ahead to the start of the school year next month with an intention to carry on the district’s goals of equity and academic achievement.

Welch was offered the superintendent position in July after the School Committee completed a five-month search process following the departure of former Superintendent Stephen Zrike’s departure in March to become Massachusetts’ next education secretary.
