‘Never Stop Learning’: Salem Career Technical Institute Graduates 30 Automotive, Building and Property Maintenance Students
Graduates earn certifications in Building and Property Maintenance, Toyota Technology 1, OSHA, CPR, AED

SALEM (June 3, 2023) – The Salem Career Technical Institute, an adult education initiative at Salem High School, celebrated its second graduating class Friday night in a ceremony at the SHS Auditorium.
The Salem CTI awarded certifications to 30 graduates, each of whom completed the 12-week program at no cost. Nineteen graduates earned certifications in Building and Property Maintenance while 11 graduates earned Toyota Technology 1 certification.
In its second graduating class, the CTI program enrollment has grown from six graduates in it’s fall cohort to the 30 spring cohort graduates honored Friday night.
In addition, Building and Property Maintenance program graduates earned certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 standards, Hot Work fire safety, Red Cross First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. They were also presented a 100-piece homeowner’s startup toolkit and a DeWalt cordless drill.
Automotive Technology graduates earned OSHA 10 standards certification as well as Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED and were furnished with $300 worth of the necessary tools, a full uniform and boots to begin work immediately.
The CTI programming included mock interview training and instruction on resume and cover letter writing.
Salem’s CTI program is emblematic of the District Strategic Plan’s four priorities: elevating learning, empowering educators, prioritizing belonging and strengthening the foundation of the district.
On hand for the ceremony were representatives from Herb Chambers Automotive Group of Somerville and McGovern Automotive Group as well as MassHire to assist the graduates in their next steps.

Registration is open for Salem CTI’s summer 12-week Building and Property Maintenance cohort beginning Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, July 31. Adult students must meet the specified requirements through MassHire. The courses are offered at no cost to students.
