Salem and Peabody school buses were illegally passed an average of three times a day in the first two months of school this fall, according to new data.

The data was collected as part of an ongoing study by BusPatrol America LLC, a Virginia company that develops technology designed to keep school buses safe.

Salem and Peabody are the first two communities in the state to collect such data with the company — data they hope will persuade state legislators to legalize the use of stop-arm cameras on buses to track school bus passes and ticket violators.
