SALEM — Thomas “Tommy” Welch, the city’s new superintendent of schools, recently began his first month in the new role, with plans to ensure a smooth start to the school year and coordinate the many transformations the district will soon undergo.
Welch, who started his first day as superintendent on Aug. 10, said that work is already underway, communicating with school staff, elected officials, families and other community members to work toward a shared vision for the district.
