Sarah Parker Remond School among recipients of SSU’s First Day of Service
The Sarah Parker Remond School, which opens its doors for the 2026-27 school year on Wednesday, Sept. 2, was one of several beneficiaries of Salem State University’s 11th annual First Year Day of Service, at which first-year SSU students volunteered across the North Shore.
SSU scholars helped several classrooms organize curriculum materials for the school year and filled hundreds of backpacks with school supplies such as pocket folders; pencils, markers and highlighters; notepads and small clipboards.
The SPR School was one of 22 community projects in greater Salem with 165 SSU students providing service.
The occasion marked the second straight year Salem Public Schools were among the recipients of the First Day of Service. Last year, SSU students put together 250 backpacks with school supplies funded through a grant awarded to SPS.
