SPS Transportation Staff Take Part in De-Escalation Training

Consistent with our 2023-26 Strategic Plan, we continually empower educators.

On Monday, Salem Public Schools bus drivers and transportation staff took part in de-escalation training through the SPS directors of Student Supports Mia Riccio (grades 6-12) and Liz Yoder (preK-5), along with Coordinator of Translation and Interpreter Services Alexandra Fortich.

The training covered the following:

• Understanding professional boundaries and ethics in working with children
• Examining beliefs about behavior and how it impacts response to behaviors
• Identifying the three categories of challenging behaviors that require de-escalation
• Applying de-escalation strategies to my practice
