2025 Salem Public Schools Student Voice Summit

What opportunities or activities can we build for teachers and students to get to know each other and build stronger relationships?

Why are students have a difficult time building and keeping peer relationships?

What changes can be made to increase on-time attendance and increase classroom engagement?

Such critical and challenging issues were confronted, researched and answered by Salem Public Schools students Thursday night at the third annual Student Voice Summit at the Peabody Essex Museum.

The 2025 edition of the Student Voice Summit drew a standing-room-only crowd of more than 300 parents and families of Salem Public Schools. Among those in attendance included Mayor Dominick Pangallo; SPS Superintendent Dr. Stephen Zrike; David Snider, Director of Learning & Community Engagement at the PEM; as well as several members of the Salem School Committee.

Along with the student presentations from nine schools, the See Me student art installation showcased fine arts projects — ceramic jewelry, crocheting, photography, traditional paintings, sketches and abstracts — from all 11 schools. The Summit opened with a student dance performance from the Horace Mann Laboratory School 21C Program led by SPS paraprofessional/professional dance instructor JayCee Cruz and a drum performance from HMLS and Bentley Academy Innovation School scholars under Greg Coles of Arts for Learning.
