Assistant Principals at Collins Middle School

Both educators began careers at Salem Public Schools

SALEM (Sept. 10, 2025) – Kylie Felix, a native of Corona, Calif., and Terrell Greene, a native of Beverly, Mass., both longtime educators within the Salem Public School District, were each promoted to assistant principal at the Francis X. Collins Middle School, Principal Gavin Softic announced recently.

Both Ms. Felix and Mr. Greene started their new roles on July 1.

Ms. Felix replaced former assistant principal Shamus Mruk, who moved into a similar role at Salem High School, while Mr. Greene was promoted as a result of the higher student population due to the relocation of Saltonstall middle school students to Collins.

Ms. Felix will oversee grade 8 students while Mr. Greene will oversee grade 6.

“Having worked at Collins for the past couple of years as an instructional coach, I’m excited to be part of the school’s progress,” said Ms. Felix. “Everyone here has worked hard to move Collins in such a positive direction, and it shows in the strong learning community that has developed. Now, as the eighth grade assistant principal, I’m excited to step into this new role and continue supporting our students, staff, and families in a deeper way.”

Upon graduation from Gordon College in 2017, Ms. Felix came to SPS and served as a grade 3 STEM and social studies teacher at the Horace Mann Laboratory School. She then moved on to the Carlton Innovation School to teach English to multilingual learners and serve as a school-based equity team leader.

Following five years at Carlton, Ms. Felix was named a multilingual learning instructional coach for grades K-8 for the 2023-24 school year, in which she implemented best practices for educators teaching English as a second language (ESL) students and worked alongside special education leadership to ensure optimal accommodations for students.

Ms. Felix became an instructional science coach at Collins for the 2024-25 academic year before becoming an assistant principal.

Ms. Felix graduated from Gordon College with honors in 2017 with dual bachelor’s degrees in elementary education and biology and has been an adjunct professor at her alma mater since 2023. She earned her master’s degree in education from Lesley University with TESOL certification (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in 2021.

In 2023, Ms. Felix also earned her Certificate of Graduate Study (CAGS) from Salem State University in educational leadership.

Ms. Felix currently resides in Malden, Mass.

A 2018 graduate of Salem State, Mr. Greene has spent his career serving in different roles at Salem Public Schools. He began as a special education paraprofessional at the New Liberty Innovation School in 2015 for one year before taking on the role of recruitment and intake specialist/family engagement facilitator from 2016-21.

Mr. Greene spent the 2021-22 school year as the attendance and outreach specialist for the District and then was named the dean of students and school culture at the Collins Middle school, a role he served from 2022-25.

“I’m very proud of how far I’ve come at Salem Public Schools, being that I’ve created my own path into leadership,” said Mr. Greene. “I’m beyond thankful for the high regard our leadership has for me.

“I’m excited to continue working as part of the Collins team,” he added. “Much work has happened to shift the culture within the school, to consider and shift the experience for students, as well as to support, promote, and boost the learning that happens in the classroom. So many of the staff show up everyday and put their heart into their work. I feel lucky to see it and hear about it in moments from students and their families.”

Along with his commitment to SPS, Mr. Greene is a head mentor and co-facilitator for Brothers for Success, a peer empowerment group that unites, inspires and motivates male students of color. He also held similar mentoring roles at North Shore Community College (2018-20) and Express Yourself in Beverly, Mass. (2016-19).

Mr. Greene earned his bachelor’s degree in World Cultures and Language (Spanish) with a minor in education from Salem State in 2018, which included semesters abroad at Universidad Oviedo in Spain and Universidad Latina in Costa Rica. He also spent a year as a fellow at the Lynch Leadership Academy’s Aspiring Principal Program at Boston College.

A 2007 graduate of Beverly H.S., Mr. Greene currently resides in Peabody, Mass.
