Friday, Jan. 30, 2026: Extreme Cold Weather Advisory

With extreme cold temperatures and low wind chills forecast for tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 30), we want to share our plans for keeping students safe while maintaining a regular school schedule.
School Schedule and Indoor Activities
To ensure the safety and comfort of our students, all recess and Physical Education (PE) classes will continue to be held indoors tomorrow.
Preparing for the Weather
We kindly remind families to prepare for these conditions by dressing students in appropriate winter attire. We recommend:
- Layering: Several thin layers help retain body heat better than one thick layer.
- Winter Essentials: Please ensure students have a warm winter coat, hat, gloves or mittens, and a scarf or face gaiter.
- Footwear: Insulated, waterproof boots are recommended for travel to and from school.
Need Winter Clothing?
If your family needs assistance obtaining a winter coat, hat, or gloves for your student, please reach out to the City Connects Coordinator at your child’s school. They are available to help connect families with resources to ensure every student stays warm this winter.
Arrival and Dismissal
To ensure student safety, we ask that families drop off students as close to the official school start time as possible. This ensures that buildings are fully staffed and open when students arrive, allowing them to transition indoors immediately. We ask that you coordinate your pick-up times as closely as possible to the school’s bell schedule to minimize any time spent waiting outdoors.
Resources for Salem Residents
For more information and safety tips, please review the Cold Weather Advisory issued by the City of Salem, which has information about warming stations available in the city and other important reminders.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. We will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the day and will provide further updates if necessary.
