Salem Career Technical Initiative Honors 26 Students in Fall Automotive, Building & Property Maintenance Commencement

Salem Career Technical Initiative Fall 2024 Graduation

Fall Class of 2024 includes three SHS Class of 2024 alumni

SALEM (Jan. 23, 2025) – The Salem Career Technical Initiative, an adult education program at Salem High School, celebrated its fourth graduating class Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, in a ceremony at the Salem High School IMC Library.

The Salem CTI awarded Automotive Technology entry-level certification to 18 students and Building and Property Maintenance certifications to eight graduates, each of whom completed the 12-week, 5-9 p.m. daily program at no cost.

With its fourth graduating class, the Salem CTI program enrollment has grown to 71 graduates in both Automotive Technology and Building and Property Maintenance since the launch in September 2023. The fall 2024 cohort included three graduates of Salem High School’s Class of 2024 – Elijah Brown, Edvian Berrios and Kendrick Mota – each Automotive Technology graduates.

The Dec. 13 Automotive Technology graduates earned entry level Toyota Technician certification as well as certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 standards; Hot Works fire safety; Red Cross First Aid; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. They were also presented with $300 worth of the necessary tools, a full uniform and boots to begin work immediately.

Building and Property Maintenance graduates earned certification in OSHA 30 standards and Hot Works fire safety, as well as Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED use. They were also presented with a 100-piece homeowner’s startup toolkit, a DeWalt cordless drill, Carhartt boots, a hard hat and other accessories.

The CTI programming included mock interview training and instruction on resume and cover letter writing.

Salem’s CTI program aligns with the District Strategic Plan’s four core priorities: elevating learning, empowering educators, prioritizing belonging and strengthening the foundation of the district.

Salem CTI’s Spring 2025 12-week cohorts in both Sustainable Building and Technology and Automotive Technology began Monday, Jan. 20 and runs through Thursday, May 1.
