CTE Professional Panel Showcases Opportunities, Internships to More Than 100 Salem High School Students

Diploma plus real work experience.
It’s a phrase with which the students of Salem High School are already familiar, and future SHS students and will come to know well.
At graduation, the students of SHS will have both, and preferably plenty of the latter.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Career Technical Education (CTE) Month at SHS continued with its Career Panel at which more than 20 professionals from different companies, small businesses, the military, and higher education spoke to SHS scholars about internships, co-ops, and postgraduate opportunities.
Several representatives shared their stories of how they came to their current roles: some pathways direct, some even wayward involving several career changes and balancing family commitments.
Additionally, representatives were asked to share with students one bit of advice, some of the responses from which included:
- ‘Be confident without being arrogant.’
- ‘Be open minded. Don’t be afraid to try new things.’
- ‘Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.’
- ‘Your first job won’t be your forever job.’
- ‘Compile accreditations and certifications.’
After the Q&A, scholars were able to visit with guests at individual tables to find out more about opportunities.
