Entirety of SHS Junior Class Attends NACAC College Fair

SHS provides juniors access to more than 250 colleges and universities
In a first for Salem High School, the entire junior class attended the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) College Fair in Boston Thursday, May 27, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
The fair offered 150 members of the SHS junior class direct access to representatives from over 250 accredited colleges and universities all under one roof and completely free of charge.
This transformative opportunity breaks down financial and logistical barriers often preventing students from exploring higher education options. Whether due to travel costs, limited access to resources, or unfamiliarity with the admissions process, many students—especially multilingual learners, first-generation college-bound students, and students receiving special education services—have lacked the opportunity to engage meaningfully with college representatives. This trip aims to change that.
“This is about ensuring every student has the chance to explore their future,” said Meghan Grosskopf Sousa, Director of College and Career Counseling. “For many of our juniors, this will be their first experience engaging directly with colleges—and that experience can be life-changing.”
The NACAC National College Fair is among the most respected events in the country, offering a wide range of resources, workshops, and personalized interactions with admissions professionals. Students gain firsthand insights into academic programs, campus life, financial aid, and more.
“We are proud to offer this opportunity to all our students,” SHS Principal Glenn Burns said. “This event represents our commitment to equity, access, and student-centered planning. Every student deserves to see what’s possible after high school.”
Consistent with the District’s 2023-26 Strategic Plan, SHS remains dedicated to creating pathways that prepare students for success in college, careers, and beyond.
