SHS students tour new balance strider hotel project

Salem High School Career Technical Education (CTE) students got the chance to see what goes into building a hotel just outside of Boston Friday, Apr. 17. Students experienced walking the New Balance Strider Hotel Project escorted by SHS Alumnus Noah Robelo ’18. Everything from crane picks on to the roof, to hot works and fire watches, students saw a number of trades in action: carpenters, drywallers, electricians, glazers, crane operators, riggers, and welders all of whom worked in conjunction with the Boston Police Department and the Boston Fire Department.

Students were escorted to the roof by a temporary exterior construction elevator where, on a clear day, they could see the skyline of Boston. Mr. Robelo then brought students through the building floor by floor to explain the progression of the finishes on each floor.

A former student of Mr. Ken LeFrancois‘s carpentry class, Mr. Robelo studied Construction Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology and now works as the Project Manager for John Moriarty and Associates. At 26 years old, Mr. Robelo oversees the interior completion of the $110 million project.

“This was a great opportunity for the students to not only see a large commercial job site in action, but to see the professional success of a form Salem High School student taught by Mr. LeFrancois,” said Mario Sousa, Director of the CTE program and Coop Coordinator at SHS.

The expected completion date of the hotel is 2027.
