Over 550 students involved in summer learning programs
SALEM (July 25, 2025) – In lock step with the core values of the District’s 2023-26 Strategic Plan, Salem Public Schools is keeping more than 550 scholars from kindergarten to grade 12 busy this summer.
With 10 summer learning programs, scholars are actively engaged in an array of academically enriching programs. These summer learning opportunities are made possible through invaluable collaborations with our dedicated partners, such as LEAP for Education, Salem YMCA, Salem Sound Coastwatch, Camp Fire North Shore, and many others, each committed to providing dynamic learning experiences.
To highlight a few of our programs:
Our Summer Connects Program has been engaging and full of activity for rising ninth graders, equipping them with valuable skills and essential resources as they prepare for high school. Students have not only gained academic readiness but have also ventured out into the community, honing their teamwork and collaborative skills through engaging activities.
Meanwhile, our Dual Language AVES Summer Academy Program and the English Language Summer Academy (ELSA) for multilingual languages have been buzzing with excitement as students delve into the fascinating world of animals and life cycles.
Last week, AVES and ELSA students also had a special visit with Curious Creatures, where they met some truly interesting animals
These programs foster collaborative learning, allowing students to explore scientific concepts while strengthening their language skills in a supportive environment.
To cap the summer, SPS will host three showcases celebrating summer learning:
- Friday, Aug. 1: ELSA Program (rising first through fifth grade scholars), Saltonstall School Auditorium, 9-10 a.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 6: Summer Academy with YMCA and AVES Dual Language Program (rising first through fifth grade scholars), Saltonstall School Auditorium, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
