WATCH | Salem City Council, School Committee and Mayoral Inauguration: Jan. 5, 2026

The City of Salem held its 2026 City Council, School Committee and Mayoral Inauguration Monday, Jan. 5 at the Peabody Essex Museum.

Among the highlights included the inauguration of incumbent School Committee member Beth Anne Cornell and newly-elected members Yamily Byas and Megan Stott (beginning at 29 minutes into the video).

Additionally, City of Salem Youth Poet Laureate Liana Galvan, a sophomore at Salem High School, recited her poem titled “Listen,” (beginning at 15:25) one several student submissions in the ‘Salem In Our Own Words’ 2026 Youth Poet Laureate Commemorative Poem Collection. Also featured in the Collection is a passage titled “Corsi e Ricorsi (The Eternal Nascent),” by SHS senior Theodore Winsor.
