VIEW GALLERY: Collins Middle School Hosts Policy and Advocacy Career Panel

Consistent with the Salem Public Schools’ Strategic Plan core value of elevating learning, Collins Middle School held its Policy and Advocacy Career Panel Wednesday morning at the CMS Auditorium for our Class of 2029 (Grade 8) scholars.
The Panel is part of the Grade 8 Cities of the Future project, in which students are designing cities to help address issues of sustainability for 100 years into the future. The project will culminate with each student compiling blueprints, prototypes and artifacts or buildings, and writing persuasive essays from the perspective of a policy maker, elected official or citizen.
The project also includes reimagining middle school in Salem to help students feel connected.
Collins Middle School is grateful for our panelists:
- Mary Manning, Salem School Committee member, retired Salem educator
- Meghan Stott, Salem City Councillor
- Alice Merkl, Salem City Councillor
- Julio Mota, City of Salem Constituent Services Officer
- Jacqueline Monterroso, Director of Advocacy and Policy, Latinos for Education; Revere School Committee member
