Salem Career Technical Initiative Graduates Nine Students in Summer Building and Property Maintenance Cohort
Summer Class of 2024 includes seven Salem natives
SALEM (Aug. 5, 2024) – The Salem Career Technical Initiative, an adult education program at Salem High School, celebrated its third graduating class Friday night in a ceremony at the SHS Black Cat Cafe.
The Salem CTI awarded Building and Property Maintenance certifications to nine graduates, each of whom completed the five-week, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily program at no cost.
With its third graduating class, the CTI program enrollment has grown to 45 graduates in both Automotive Technology and Building and Property Maintenance since the launch in September 2023. The summer cohort included seven residents of Salem, including three members of the SHS Class of 2024.
Friday’s graduates earned certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30 standards; Hot Work fire safety; Red Cross First Aid; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. They were also presented a 100-piece homeowner’s startup toolkit, a DeWalt cordless drill, Carhartt boots, a hard hat and other accessories.
The CTI programming included mock interview training and instruction on resume and cover letter writing.
Salem’s CTI program aligns with the District Strategic Plan’s four core priorities: elevating learning, empowering educators, prioritizing belonging and strengthening the foundation of the district.
