Salem Public Schools is offering 10 summer learning programs and serving over 550 students from kindergarten through grade 12. Students are actively engaged in a diverse array of academically enriching summer programs made possible through invaluable collaborations with our dedicated partners, including LEAP for Education, Salem YMCA, Salem Sound Coastwatch, Camp Fire North Shore, and many others, all committed to providing dynamic learning experiences.

English Language Summer Academy (ELSA) Multilingual Learner Program

A thematic program for multilingual learners to develop their English proficiency through a project and inquiry-based model.

ELSA at Camp Fire North Shore

A four-week summer day camp program for rising 1st-5th graders, run by Camp Fire North Shore in partnership with the SPS ELSA program. This is an afternoon program where students will engage in theatre arts, sports, games, STEM projects, swimming, arts & crafts, and cooking.

21C Summer Academy Salem YMCA

A five-week academic/enrichment program for students rising into grades 1-5, run by the Salem YMCA in partnership with Salem Public Schools. Morning hours will be spent with teachers incorporating 21st Century programs focusing on project-based learning and afternoons and Fridays with enrichment & camp activities.

A thematic program for Dual Language Learners to develop their English proficiency through a project and inquiry-based model.

21C Expanding Horizons LEAP for Education

Expanding Horizons is a five-week (Monday-Thursday) summer program for students entering grades 6-8. The program offers engaging project-based and enrichment experiences in the areas of STEM, social justice, environment/sustainability, service learning, creative and visual arts (such as art, photography, drama, culinary), and sports and fitness. Games and team-building challenges are included along with field trips.

Summer Connect

Summer Connect provides a wonderful opportunity for rising freshmen to jumpstart their high school careers. By maintaining strong attendance during Summer Bridge, students will receive 0.5 credits toward graduation. By enrolling in Summer Connect, your child’s high school journey is already off to a great start. It is designed to support students in feeling prepared and excited for high school. Specifically, Summer Connect is committed to:

  • Introducing students to the high school building, routines, and academic expectations
  • Building strong relationships among students, teachers, counselors, and other school staff
  • Helping students discover their passions and build college and career aspirations

To achieve these goals, students will experience goal-setting activities, hands-on academic classes, fun team-building activities, and field trips. Attendance is critical for students to get as much as possible out of Summer Connect.

Not Yet Academy

Not Yet Academy (NYA) is a summer opportunity for high school students to complete their learning and meet the passing threshold in Math, English, Social Studies, Science, and Physical Education.

21C Internship Program

The 21C Internship Program is geared toward high school students interested in the education field. The summer internship will enable interns to gain valuable experience and provide additional support to K–8 students in current 21st CCLC schools/sites.

LEAP- Summer Work Program

Six-week paid career exploration program for high school students with career mentorship, project-based learning, and soft skill development. The program is run by LEAP for Education.
